Biography

Rosa Balderrama is an accomplished cellist and passionate educator with a Master of Music in Cello Performance from The Ohio State University. Originally from Bolivia, Rosa has pursued a rich musical journey that spans continents, combining classical training with a global perspective on music. She has had the privilege of studying under esteemed cellists Mark Rudoff from The Ohio State University, Dr. Ashley Sidon from Drake University, and Dr. Eduardo Vargas from Bolivia. Her mentors have been instrumental in shaping her approach to both performance and teaching.

Rosa’s career includes performances with renowned ensembles, such as the Des Moines Symphony during her undergraduate studies, and currently, the Newark Granville Symphony and Ashland Symphony. She is also an active performer in the Columbus area, frequently collaborating with local ensembles for various events. Over the years, she has had the honor of performing alongside world-class musicians, including Gil Shaham, Midori, Awadagin Pratt, and Sarah Chang, among many others.

As an educator, Rosa is known for her thoughtful and individualized approach, having taught courses in Applied Cello, Aural Skills, and Music Theory. She currently offers private cello lessons from her home studio, where she lives with her husband, Jacob, and their cat, Yo-Yo. Rosa’s teaching philosophy emphasizes helping students find their unique voice on the cello, blending technical proficiency with expressive depth.

Whether performing on stage or inspiring the next generation of cellists, Rosa Balderrama is driven by a love of music and a belief in its power to connect people. She looks forward to sharing her passion for the cello with students and audiences alike.
